Plot
After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, takes over the reins of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from a Bat-signal in the final scene of the season finale, we never got a cameo from Robert Pattinson in “The Penguin.” In this short video, IMDb attempts to answer: Where the hell was Batman? Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke tobacco in Batman (2022), but he failed. However, in his series, the character is depicted as a casual tobacco user, preferring cigars.
He nailed the tone and atmosphere
An umbrella falls, and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Graham Norton I liked: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). It’s gritty, gritty, and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that spark of charm that Gandolfini did with Tony Soprano.
Where to start with Farrell
There are similarities to The Sopranos, especially in terms of tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff going on in this opening episode, but there are still some comedic moments that fit the tone and don’t detract from it. Incredible is the right word. I love seeing talented actors take on roles like this, and the makeup/CGI or whatever they did to physically transform him into the Penguin not only passes the eye test, but also looks incredibly realistic.
And Farrell is completely immersed in the role as an actor
There’s always a risk that if the makeup isn’t good enough or is a little off, it can be a complete distraction. In Penguin, it enhances his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a good job. I may be a little biased, as he was one of my favorite actors before this series, but I think he deserves the credit he deserves. I never jump into new shows right away because I like to binge-watch episodes, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out.
